James VI crowned King of England

On 25 July 1603, James VI was crowned King of England. A “cradle king” in Scotland, he proved to be a moderate and wise monarch, much traduced by later historians, overly influenced by the writings of his enemies. There is now an excellent balanced biography of him by Jenny Wormald in the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
